lol that tut was built to attempt to replicate things you can do in max in maya. :) The image link was posted on page 6 but heres a repost for the max workflow (image not mine) You can do it in max in fewer steps see The other thing you can do is select the main shell, copy it and convert it to an edit patch object, then…
Lofting by picking "Get Shape" requires your shape to be created from the correct axis. You can do a corrective rotation in sub level, not on object level. Edit spline -> sub lvl 2, rotate the shape. You'll find more information of the basic tools here: http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/15/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/ Edit: Btw Per,…
1. Create a grid 2. Create a cylinder and try to match it up with the grid. By doing this you will have less geo to cleanup in the end. 3. Boolean! 4. Deform the resulting object by a lattice and weld some of the vertices to give a nice subd-topology. As said before, there is no reson for trying to do it without a…
Great video Pedro! And awesome work on that console. I laughed when the mouse danced around some of the boxes, "this is important shit, pay attention!" A few points to expand on the technique: * Sweep gives you more options then loft. It's modifier based so it stacks well with other modifiers. Loft is a Compound shape and…
@amoeba there are no hard and fast 'rules' when it comes to modeling something, just general optimisation techniques shared over time among people passionate for our craft which by the way are really worthwhile keeping in mind, like here, for example. Anyway as mentioned, if your mesh overall sub divides with a few minor…
If you don't find an easier way, you might remove all the supporting loops from both objects (make a copy of the mesh before you do it, so you can reference), then connect them, then recut the supporting loops on the whole thing. You'd only have to remove the supports running long ways, so it might not be too much work.…
I was recommended by Earthquake to take a look here, and it seems like a good thread to post this in. http://www.polycount.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=15118&d=1389301177 Running into a "round object with hard edges" problem. I need the round/curves along the red marks, but I also need to retain the hard edges…
Right, but I guess I was asking for something more concrete. Is that how people do models with a mix of surface types? They do the soft body stuff in Mudbox and then tack on the hard surface stuff as separate models? Do you then take that frankenstein collection of meshes and retopo into a low poly mesh, weld verts and…
Search this thread for the parts that Sathe makes in his tutorial. There's a picture of it in a post he made. If you've downloaded and understand the third then the first two are just similar but more basic stuff. And I don't know specifically how, but I'm sure you can write a script that applies a certain material to a…
perna admittedly i didnt try model it yet but thats more because i dont have a clue where to start with it, iv just been modeling around it at the moment lol anyway what do you mean a straight up boolean? i was thinking of modeling the main shape and having the grilled bits as another object just floating but i dont think…
