Thanks guys. Doesn't seem to be dumping memory... if I have the maps already loaded, it pauses only a moment before loading the next. But if I never loaded them, that's when it chugs. I always save in wireframe mode, viewport maximized. Toggling to 4 views shows all are in wireframe too. Using the Direct3D 9 driver. Guess… -

You don't need to use the absolute highest poly version to set up your cage. If you have a 1 or two mill poly version, set it up with that, then render it with the 10million version. This is a pretty common issue, usually has to do with Max reordering the verts on import/export. Deep UV may also have messed with vert order.
