I use my 46'' samsung a530 as my monitor with vga at 1080p (the HDMI looked like ass for some reason). The colors and clarity as absolutely excellent and far better than any monitor I've used. I experimented with KVM switches and it mostly boiled down to "The more mechanical it was the better it was" So many issues with high end KVMs and their software to detect monitors and shit. Best one I ever found had a manual break in the cable then used a big old physical switch to snap between which outputs the cables… -

Max 2012 and 2013 are pretty buggy in that regard, see if you can get access to 2014. Other then that however, Disable/Enable Nitrous and make sure you set the options to the lowest values in the Viewport settings as Mark mentioned.
