If this file is totally hosed, you could try right-clicking on the file and going to "properties" in Windows Explorer, then flip over to the "Previous Versions" tab. If you have system restore enabled on your computer, there might be a backup listed there that you can restore from. I tend to work inside a Dropbox folder… -

Setup a document file that has the right settings for you (background color, canvas size etc) save that as a project file in the right place in the startup folder. Max has a Auto Backup feature built in, its enabled by default and set to 3 iterations so you should check your autoback folder: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\3dsmax\autoback You can adjust the frequency and number of iterations in: Customize > Preferences > Files Tab > Auto Backup I have mine set to 10 files and 10min. -

wow. Absolutely gorgeous! You're seriously one of the best environment artists I've ever seen man and that's saying a lot since I have about 41 in my "Artists" bookmarks folder and have seen hundreds more.
