I want the sword to be simple and functional, but embellished with filigree around the hilt and on the blade. Still noodling around with the hilt and I have to add a pommel, but it's getting there.
I've tried nearly all of them out there. The Cintiq Companion is the only one that is fully functional. You're constantly looking for workarounds and fixes for anything else.

weirdly enough, my biggest problem with this is the polycount... it could easily be halved with no loss of detail or function. also, what's with the aliased jaggies running down the sword?
The trick with the texture is diffuse light baking, done in for example 3ds max? Or is there some raytracing function in the engine (baking done within the engine, like UDK)?
I tried the heightmap to normal function, but it doesn't accept a font as an input. I opened it up but I don't know enough to modify it to work with text.
