Great points Gav. The whole demo reel thing really bothers me when I see students work, applications and portfolios. Its even more annoying to me that teachers are constantly opposing this by shoving the "must have demo reel" motto down student artists throats - that however is another conversation :poly124:
I played the demo for this and I agree, it's pretty cool. I know it's a good game when I go back and play the demo more than once. It kind of came out of nowhere because I'd never heard of it before, but it's been getting good reviews and sounds like it might be somewhat of a sleeper hit.
Jeffro: Not too sure, they said they hired guys from the Scandinavian demo scene, the guys who made kkrieger were germans. Though I suspect the claim to be wrong since the last big demo con was held in Scandinavia (forgot where exactly) at that time and what do american journalists know about the demoscene?
I won't be demoing in this swanky pad. But sunday during my demo I will be giving out serious swag from ensemble, I will be handing out some signed art books/shirts/boardgame/posters/and games, so people will stay awake during the demo:P Hope to see some polycounters out there. Spark
It almost seems like a lot of the "they are making me waste my time" and "not respecting me by replying or giving feedback" posts are coming from people with zero experience in the industry on a non freelance level. As someone who has been in charge of being at the same time a Lead artists on a project, trying to manage…
Imagine in 2002, when most games still had free time limited demos, if you could get people to PAY YOU to play your demo with the caveat that they could get a full refund if they hadn't played more than 2 hours? There's no doubt people would have been all over that idea if not for the sheer stupidity of it (in 2002) -…
Well, music on a video is different than music on your site. I think a bit of music to a demo reel is nice (however who has a demo reel these days?). I strongly disagree with music auto-playing on your front page, however. I find it incredibly vexing and often rage-close tabs :P
Okay so hmm I tried out the new GoW3 demo and its the same as before Seriously, to whoever is hyped by GoW, do yourself a favor and give Bayonetta a try (on 360). It's like a hundred times better. Granted I only played the GoW3 demo and not the full game, but it feels soooo stiff compared to La Bayonette.
Models look good....I like that you put the ingame shots in the demo...you could probly consolidate the demo and your models on one page...although I don't think it is that big of a deal... I wouldn't stress too much maybe show some flats and wires too P.S. I loved you in Legend
From my notes at work, its about solutions for these kind of things Most of these build on Flash as the main animation package and then enable a bridge to bring it into the engine / platform. Just at Soap alone we have like 3 solutions from us Game devs everyone coming up with something that doesn't really exist yet on the…
