Hm... It never occurred to me to do it with deformers :D Instead I created a sphere and boolean in the ring to it. So I ended up with this puzzle of how to clean the resulting topology. But I like your idea!
It looks like there is a line that runs down the middle of the rail that could be removed. There is also some kind of ring on the front which I'm assuming is for the strap. That could probably made floating instead of merged with the main body.
Thanks everyone..glad you liked it..I should probably add some more edge rings to the joints and mess around with the fur a little..I don't have the luxury to add more geometry though.
Here is my final concept for the turret rework. I decided to drop the minion idea, considering Riot had already explored that concept :) (For the old LoL players, does the helmet ring any bells? ;p)
update: - Changed function to skip back projection when appropriate, i.e. - Edge rings round out. - Recognizes multiple selection sets, i.e. - selecting two unconnected groups of components results in two circles
Welp, drunk on Polycount seems like a good way to ring in the new year :) As far as goals go, it's definitely to stop sucking at 2D art which will hopefully feed back into improving my 3D art ^^
argh that rings some bells. I'm thinking it's kind of a cult film. I can't hear line 1 in anything other than Walters voice from the big lebowski, so I'm gonna go with that.
There's too many artists I think are way better than I am (especially at their 'strengths'), I don't think I'll ever be content with my work. :/ I'd imagine it rings true for a lot of artists.
I like the metal rings on the barrels. Did you heavily include it into the diffuse or do you have a special material setup for it? Also how did you get the water to bend/flow around the rocks?
