These look awesome very inspiring. What are your material break downs? are you over laying dirt and decals as transparencies? And are you rendering in Max? I watched a video of these vehicles in game very nice to see them moving.
Vipera - Sorry for long delay, we´ve been looking in to this quite heavily, we´ve passed it on to the dev team and they are looking in to it. Seems like this is a bug of some sort, so we´re very thankful that you reported it!
It is a cool idea...I have a friend who worked on something like this when he was graduating last year... Are we gonna have some decals/markings on the exoskeleton ? Personally the overall green seems kind of plain to me.
This is steampunk-alicious. Great shapes and details and I love the blueprints as well. I think it'd be really cool to see some colour map variants - camouflage, brass with crudely painted decals etc. Really great work!
Sorry for the delay; I finally had some time to work on the maps. I improved the diffuse and started the specular. It's not final, I'll probably work on the scratches on the specular a bit more. Anyway, here's how it looks right now:
Valve Software. Half-Life. EDIT: Oh, on second thought, I don't know anything about their budget, or if they were "on time", according to their publisher. Think there was some delays there. Either way, it was a debut product that did very well.
Looks fantastic to me, I loved Legend, 1st time in a decade I felt it was worth looking back and was surprised just how pretty and fun it was. Can't wait for this one, my daughter loves playing these ones with me :)
For an asset of that size I'd approach the model differently: as a tentacle assembled from neatly unwrapped modular assets with seamless textures. Then add some variation to the material via vertex color masks or as decals and add irregularity to the mesh (e.g. via vertex noise/random offsets).
Thanks DireWolf It's very clean at the moment, due to using modular assets I wanted to avoid having obvious dirt in the texture so that it didn't repeat all over the ship. I'm going to use decals to add more dirt and grime to the walls at a later date.
I've started on building which are part of the wall, no ornament or small details yet as I'm trying to get the general style in the shape first. As for the color it's quite dull at the moment but some texture are just and there is no blendshader, dirt or decal yet. Anyway, images~ some towers : and in the city :
