Use transfer attributes, its built in to Maya and let's you transfer vertex attributes including normals between meshes. Can work based on position or based on vertex order

I would absolutely love this. I try to include these things, but I always feel like I don't have quite enough information to make it as accurate as I want.
Somebody should do quick yet solid tutorials on gumroad for transitioning from Max/Maya to Modo. I bet people (myself including) would be throwing money at the screen.
its a bug that will be fixed with max2010 alternativly use polyBoost (which is included in max2010) which does it the propper way. The same btw. applies to UV- edges it simply fails on edges
