This screams tech demo, focusing on one thing at a time making it look cool, and showing off features, but not focusing on the whole look, I figured they'd do another samaritan demo. Can't wait to see what artists will do with it though.
I think you've mistaken them for Epics tech, Computron posted a slide on Cryteks tech updates for Crysis 3. Anyway regarding those, this is what I meant, you can see it from 12:50 to 13:10. You can see that cubemap part "dragging" one the screen as the camera moves. In this trailer they had control of the camera so it's…
So it look like if next-gen console will be on AMD GPU then most fancy UE4 will be useless for most of developers. Oh. Arrow in the knee for Epic :D They really should consider writing their own physics engine. Or Crytek will take a lead. As all their tech is created in house. Except fmod and Scaleform.
I answered my own question by examining the shader in the video - they are defining 'scratch roughness' and 'grime roughness' and other things, at the individual material level. really cool. Neox: All I meant was that UDK already has mobile stuff that bakes materials down into simpler forms - they have that tech already!
For the hair: i stil dont really get how its working with Tessalation. The SE Engine work the hair with Tessalation, similiar as the Samaritan Demo did the smoke by Tessalation, does it mean the hair is a fiber like Polygon Based output as ZBrush does? Well for the demo: iam really impressed and excited about it and really…
Same here. The Luminous tech demo benefited immensely from both of those features. Decent cloth simulation for clothes (as opposed to single sheets like flags) is a must for next gen, and hair simulation would go a long way towards alleviating the bald space marine thing we've had going on this whole gen.
Thanking you. Although your response begs the question - is UE4 not scalable to older tech', such as the 360 and PS3 then? I ask because UE3 is pretty universal and there are even 3rd party revisions of it to work with Wii hardware. Presumably, mobile developers would still be using UE3 for a little while as UE4 would be…
I remember that demo at E3, and I thought whoa, cool. Very detailed. But nothing i'm sorry surpasses the epic demonstration of Valve showing off Half-Life 2 and Source engine. That was a mind blowing timeline to be marked. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ddJ1OKV63Q"]Half Life 2 Tech Demo - E3 2003 - YouTube[/ame]
Yeah they really seem to be getting closer, especially considering that the pre rendered has been hand tweaked by a comp team. I really found the Square Enix demo to be more impressive than allot of in game cinematics I've seen recently. Arent the new particles part of the Physx sdk (or atleast a Nvidia tech) rather than…
It's a UE4 tech demo... why wouldn't it be real-time? I think for the people comparing it to Samaritan, the big difference is that the Samaritan demo had tons of dx11 reflections and tons of emissive elements contrasting in a nighttime scene to make it really striking. Making something reflective look…
