Mark did a good list of the flaws that the Max built in has. I've been mucking about with 2015 on one project and after a few days I installed Outliner. There is familiarity bias there, but does what I need out of the box (useage: bog standard look dev > modeling 90% of the time). Having AD put in a similar feature is…
Thanks for the update PJanssen. Btw, sorry I forgot to inform you that the drag and drop .max file causing Outliner missing the layer list (even the default 0, have to restart Outliner to bring back the list) is happen on all the scene I try at work (even only contain simple box) on Max 2010 x86. On the same machine, if I…
I'm using it with the latest updates, had some stability issues lately though. Not sure if it's the Outliner but it had some refreshing problems on a highpoly/smallscale scene... Also: I had a bug with the layer refreshing: I copied a few polygons of a surface (Edit Poly, select some Polygons, Press Shift and drag them)…
A question about the selectionset mode: Should there be a list of all objects not in any selectionset, like the 'unassigned' material node? When having a single treeview this might make sense, but when having multiple trees open it might only get in the way? Interesting idea! I will look into that. It should be possible to…
I've pushed out version 2.1.1, an update to fix the most prominent issues in 2.1. If you're updating from version 2.1, the installation is going to fail the first time it is executed. This is due to a little bug in the update code that slipped past my testing... But you can just ignore it and run the update again by…
Alright, a few thoughts on the future of the Outliner: - Over the past month and a half, I've been collecting some (anonymous) statistics from the update requests. It turns out that only around 2,2% of the Outliner users use 3dsmax 2008, which in absolute terms is about 20 people. Because this is such a low number, I have…
Hi Pjanssen, I found this script from ScriptSpot which automatically delete empty layers from the layer manager and it works. But the thing is, Outliner didn't detect the layer manager's layer list changes and I have to close and reopen Outliner for it to display the updated layer list in layer manager. I notice that from…
I've updated the Outliner to version 2.1.3:* [Feature] Issue 51, Added user color scheme file to userscripts directory.* [Enhancement] Issue 54, added "show frozen in gray" to contextmenu.* [Enhancement] Added "Set focus to search field on open" option.* [Bugfix] Issue 53, 3DConnexion camera causes flickering.* [Bugfix]…
dutch, it looks like a refresh bug, just close and open the outliner to get it right, no need to restart max. Bug ! Took time to discover how to reproduce it ^^ -create an object -in the material mode, select its material (unassigned by default) and click "select childnodes" (edit: there you can do anything, deselect…
@[HP]The docking issue is indeed an annoying one. The functionality was already quite shaky in max versions up to 2010, but it became really broken in max 2011... As Revel says, the only way to 'solve' this is to undock, resize, and redock. You should have to do this only once, the Outliner will remember its size next time…
