Hmm? What's MRV? I'm not bothering with PyMel since I'm actually not using much MEL command syntax at all, it's mostly Python file ops so far along with API functions through the OpenMaya Python libraries for doing all the heavy lifting. There's like only two actual lines of Python MEL calls in there so far :) That said, I…
Cool stuff, what's pymel I've seen the word around for a while but I'm not sure the definition. I'm still learning and just writing everything in mel so far, will start to integrate python as a get better.
It's currently done in Mel script, which is very slow for that. One day I will try the C++ API. :) I don't share yet my script because I have still a lot of bugs to resolve unfortunately.
Wow very impressive, that was always my dream to have a dynamic bevel back when I was still modeling things. How are you doing the actual custom bevel node, is it in the API or can a geometry node be created in mel?
Come at me bro, we are feeling the same ! However, i will skip the Python/Qt phase and go from Mel to C++ API once I will have some free time in my free time (yeah, really). :)
The pack UVs around selection is really neat, I couldn't figure out how to do it in Maya with Mel script. Does the straighten UVs work on U-shaped shells or is it tolerance based and would collapse onto itself if the angle of the UVs was too great to start?
Well, for basic things you get a lot of tutorials you know ! :) (For example : http://download.autodesk.com/us/maya/2011help/Commands/ or http://xyz2.net/mel/ ) But for a thing such advanced as making an UDK viewport in maya it's gonna be a bit hard I think.
@Matt: How are you rendering the thumbnails? Always wanted to build like a database plugin that just accesses a folder and shows thumbnails on the objs. I know there are some scripts that do this for maya...really need to get back to doing Mel or figuring out python.
malcolm, thank you =) Pymel is very handy as you work not with strings like in mel but with objects. It gives many benefits. However, if you have to process large amount of data, then you’d better learn Maya Python API for fast working of a script. As to me it’s not so handy but fast.
