Here's my week 4 (the hatch window thingy). I got a bit carried away with making a low poly, and I need to learn better edge flow for sub-d definitely. Ah well, live and learn, gotta carry it onto the next project. My smoothed wires are HERE
Here is my take on W3 challenge. I'll Do the S2 as well but didn't have the time to last week. I'm going to make the screw too and the thing on the side on the screen of commador I know it's tight again :D I'll try to work on a small environment to present all the weeks challenge too. I have some idea just need time.
@s6. Thanks you next time I work with less tight corner. I wanted to see how actually the baking will look. Probably not bad but with AA and mip map involved it can cause some ugly pinch. The are a bit less thight than in appearance as the screen have a sharpen post process from toolbag 2. Waiting the next challenge. :D
shirogatsu, the render looks great. And thanks for starting this, s6. :) I gave it a few hours, I had poor judgement when I started with the front part where the screws are and threw off the proportions there, but it was fun just doing some sub-d modeling. :) My edges are probably too sharp, but maybe I'll go back later…
Marmo render of the high :D Missed a bunch of stuff off and cocked up some of the scales on this one, I want to get closer to finished on my pistol before the polycomp starts tommorow so this is it for me. Awesome choice of subject. Shaded Grey - - - - - -Wireframe Moss - That render is reaallly hard to read, I am just…
I'm very comfortable with matching reference. The assets I make for work are usually accurate down to the millimeter or less. For this however I made no attempt to match reference as it was so simple and all I cared about was the topology. You guys are right though in saying it's an essential skill to have and I definitely…
@Cheatthem & stevston89: Please Review the Original post. In the future please link to your wireframe shots, Instead of posting them in open forum. Thanks guy! I'm glad you could join us. @ Cheatthem: If you start with more sides for the main cylinder shape you will have a less oblong result, and an overall nicer…
Damn, you guys piled in here quick :D All good points, By both yourself, and Commador. I wanted to note this, Specifically, because I do plan on creating a recap. I'm just unsure of how it will go at the moment. Perhaps I'll contact the person I feel had done the best job, or gotten the best results and request they do a…
Recently I have been sitting way too much in spreadsheets and I just had to do some modeling so I googled hard surface challenge and this showed up :D Here is my speed modeling version: When it comes to the bolt, I have done a bolt tutorial a while ago (which I would modify heavily if I were to do it over, but then again,…
Hey Jed, Modelling in Maya can be a bit of a pain compared to Max or MODO but these are a few things I picked up that help :) There are a couple of really useful "tools" that aren't first apparent in Maya, one of which is the Slide Edge tool under the Edit Mesh menu :) Once clicked you can select an edge to slide your…
