Hey Guys, I've just created a Skype Group for the Hard surface challenge. If you'd like to discuss challenges in real time, Or chat about how to move the thread in the right direction, Please PM me with your skype contact info.
Alright, my quest for hard surface mastery starts here, i´ll try to do at least one of these per day while i´m also learning the tool, in my case modo! So here it is, week 1 concept 1
Took a stab it this. Really great idea! Need to practice my hard surface more. Anyway here are my renders. Oh and Marmoset triangulates everything so the wire isn't exact to what I modeled. Ooops here are my wires in link form.
Not unless you really want to :) The main point was the head of the bolt, seeing as it would be the only portion visible on a finished hard surface model. Glad to see you guys are going to join in! Working on the complex model as we speak. Should have it in 30-40 minutes give or take.
Awesome idea! Great to finally see a hard surface challenge here! :) Here is my try! Wires I totally agree with that! Would be great to find objects which are doable for a beginner but also challenging for advanced modelers! Maybe hard to find stuff which goes with that but I think it's possible. :D
Decided to have a go on the 2nd week, missed out on the first week. I honestly kinda rushed through this one and butchered the proportions, but I overall enjoyed the practice on my hard surface abilities. Got QUITE sloppy towards the end in making the screw for the big vertical pipe and whatnot. Beauty shot in glorious…
Am i a wicked person if i consider the advanced model the easier of the two? :) The presentation of the models, is that as normalmapped lowpoly models?, it is a game art community afterall ;) Sadly i dont have the time to join in this week, i'm currently busy with the monthly noob challenge, when i'm done with that…
How are you meant to wrap around the pistol grip patterns without using an ffd modifier? Having a hard time finding any info on that, and the use of skin wrap modifier in max. From the examples it looks pretty easy to do with ffd modifiers because the grip is sectioned off into almost planar surfaces. Although what if I…
I got a piece of feedback suggesting we try something in this vein. Just testing the waters. we have many more weeks ahead. I don't anticipate the reception being all that great on props/objects in a specific style, because that only appeals to a specific group of people, but we'll see how it goes :) None the less, it's a…
Thanks JurassicPerk for the .gif on the body workflow. Updated my post with my new revision. I ended up mainly following the gif to setup the body and I STILL SCREWD up the godamm proportions. I need to make the tubing on the top a little more cylindrycal but I ended up over-flattening it! Same with the hard crease to show…
