Is Mask By Cavity what you're using to get that effect as if you'd drybrushed the sculpt with a mask? Whatever it is it seems like a really smart way to make the horns look more weathered (for lack of a better word) quickly.
You can't split subtools by polygroup, but you can still auto group>ctrl shift click to select>mask>split by masked points. So it's the equivalent of taking the stairs. You'll get there, but you'll be tired...
the two metal thingies on the front of his mask are lit from the top-left, as is his hat, while everything else is lit straight down. the mask goes too far up his face, as well.
Use masking. The cursor for your brush isn't really flat/2d as you expect, but more of a sphere, so it would project onto surrounding faces, which is why you'd need to mask off areas.
Yeah, I can see what you mean. What I have is blending between a couple of different smart masks in painter. Would you recommend that I paint the mask for the wet moss by hand?
Skew maps are just masks that tells the baker to use a non average normals in that part where you painted (idk if that's exactly it, thought it makes your normal not distorted in that part where you have masked).
Holy fecking Jesus on a Pogo stick! Guys! Imagine if this was applied with a synthetic gel mask, with fiber optic light points as cover on your face! You could literally create a digital mask! Holy feck!
If you're talking about the legs collapsing in on themselves, try turning on Auto Backface Masking. Brush > Auto Masking > BackfaceMask This is per-brush so you will need to toggle it every time you switch brushes.
I would recommend to do a clown pass and just do dual renders, one without the wings and one with the wings, and then use the clown mask from the BPR passes to mask out the wings and add opacity in Post.
