Wow, I thought they pretty much just made barbie games (from my impression when they visited Dare to be Digital). Glad to be proved wrong, they make some cool games and the videos make me want to work there :D Looks like a really good studio.
@Doodlok Yeah, retail really wasn't suited to my personality at all. I studied at Falmouth University, Digital Animation and VFX... although weirdly, I came out as a character artist rather than an animator (I went in fully expecting to still want to be an animator at the end of it).
I bought a subscription to Sketchbook Pro it has alot of the features this Ps tool has. I love Sketchbook in conjunction with Photoshop you have all you need for digital tools; one just has to learn them if you don't know, that boat I'm not in, whew :)
@ marlfox: thanks, studying Hogarth was really helpful with torso twists Sorry about the low quality of the pictures I don't have a proper scanner just my camera. I will bump up the levels and contrast next time. I'll upload a color study, digitally, soon.
G4 was actually SUPER awesome when it was a niche digital cable channel. It was hardcore video game channel - this was prior to the TechTV merger. This channel was nerd central! I mean, G4 had an entire half hour series of MMO machinima. http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=InxMyUotVwc
It seems very familiar to how the Guitar Hero franchise ended up getting diluted into plethora of spin-offs and sequels. Action adventure ? Digital distribution ? Targeting the Asian market ? oh dear.. Wonder what is the fate of IW. It's a bit surreal to the point of being a bad joke .
rollin, I don't see why you want the 2003 issues of Game Developer. Both those articles are on my site in their entirety. The author let me digitize them since he retained the rights to republish them on the web. Unless there's another article you're thinking of?
Lore: thanks for the story, I've made a news post about it and i edited your post to clear up the Value = Valve confusion. i'm interested to see if Valve goes digital distribution only, though I can't see that being viable for (this generation) of console games.
oh man, imagine how awesome that would be to have if it worked with maya and photoshop. Imagine how awesome using a combination of your hands and a stylus would be while doing photoshop. So many people would be open to learning digital arts if the interface was so malleable and intuitive.
you could shell out about 1200 for a digital drum set and use it to drive the midis so you . i was doin that for a while till i realized i'm not much of a drummer an just rather program them in. i'm usin ezdrummer now, sounds great to me.
