as usual. it depends there is no definite answer, as this comes down to YOUR needs. nowadays unless its some mobile title its very unlikely that you would mesh the eyeballs and eyesockets together. if it is anything current gen you'd treat eyeballs and head as seperate elements. in many productions eyeballs even are on a…
Hi guys, nice discussion here. I am presently using Amd firepro v4900 1gb DDR5 vram with i7 4th gen and 32 GB DDR3 memory. Now smart material is very slow and sometime it crashes too. If I upgrade/ downgrade to Nvidia Geforce GT 730 4GB ddr3 VRAM will that put a substantial difference in performance?
nice scene man! it turned out really good, love the vertex paint on the tower! one thing i would point out is that your tents look really old-gen :D , you could add some more materials to make some flaps that could just move on the wind. anything that could break the boxy look :D
You should mention what platform/specs are you aiming for. Low poly can mean anything from mobile phones, current gen consoles, PC or the really retro stuff (PS1 or Nintendo DS). And if you're following a PBR/AAA workflow, you'll still need to model a High Poly version to save the normal maps info from.
Hey Guys! I some of you are starting out making rocks.... I made a 3 part tutorial serires on Youtube that covers basic "next gen" rock asset creation using zbrush, photoshop and any modeling package of choice. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/4Cw0k5YUNJk Hope this helps some people!! Tim
Looking very nice, but I have to agree with the others on adding some color. Just because this is 'next gen' doesn't mean it has to be muted and all earth toned. The grass is giving it a little more life though. Maybe you could get some color to the scene by adding cloth or artifacts that may have been left behind.
http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3d-studio-max/creating-a-next-gen-video-game-hot-rod-the-complete-workflow-day-6/ The above link brings you to a tutorial on unwrapping a hot rod but the techniques are applicable. the whole series helped me a lot. They were made by Xoliul you can find these and other tutorials on…
Wait, you said 4k map for the whole thing, and you don't have enough room for facial detail!? Is this a film-resolution model or something? I've seen great-looking "next-gen" game character face textures taking up a 512x512 before... you can fit 64 (that's right, sixty-four) 512x512s into a 4k map...
I think people's interest is dying out at a faster rate. Most people are probably gearing up for next gen, so they are putting in more hours (to buy new systems), and playing less :P Seriously though, I wouldn't worry about it. The next generation of systems/games should usher in a new era of online, competitive play.
Great art, but no "next gen" stuff. I doubt you will have much of a chance over at crytek (but I wish you luck never the less). Personally I would try to look for companies that focus on Wii, PSP, DS and mobile games. Seems more suited to your current skill set (or at least that's what your portfolio shows).
