It bugs me that the only damage area is in one block. You wouldnt be able to use it as modular very well because that one damage block will stick out. I would have weathering and damage around the top part of the curb, and have it subtle.
+1 For texture flats along with some wireframe overlay screenshots to see how you reused the textures on various modular pieces. Looking awesome, the path that ends in a circular path in the middle reminds me of a scene from xmen where cerebo is used.
First thing I did was break down the scene a bit into what I could make modular - I tried to separate elements by material but this evolved a bit over time and I was actually able to cull a couple of parts (yay for the tri count)
Going to have to agree with what others have said about this one. Looks like a good one for modularity. Statue looks fun too. This image has been resized. Click this bar to view the full image. The original image is sized 2400x1216.
Well you're not starting simple. Yes you should go modular, and you should go procedural. I used cityengine once, dno how it is these days. Studios tend to make their own solutions based on houdini, but there are other softwares and plugins around.
Thank you guys for the tips. I toned down the yellow! I also started working on the modular pieces for the train. So far the modeling is down, next comes texturing. I plan to make some simple tile able materials to use. :)
Geezus, great lighting ! Nice use of modularity too. The simulated cloths look great and are a nice touch, and I definitely agree the carpet could use some beating up, maybe folded over a bunch? Show us some breakdowns sometime!
Ah yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I wasn't planning on making any major changes.I think there are just times when I'm looking at concepts and I just want to change little things for the sake of modularity, which I'm assuming is acceptable.
Most of the assets for big name games are built using one of a few large outsource studios that are capable of providing hundreds of staff for a project. internally the number will be much smaller. Turnaround time for an average set of modular props will be anywhere between a week and a month.
Hi, i like your work. Are you going to model a circular element on the floor or are you going to just texture it on a plane? For what are pipes are you thinking about make them modular? One time i have seen something like this:
