Hello Hugarue, These models are absolutely amazing. The art style looks fantastic. I am currently a game production student nearing graduation and have worked mostly in Maya, so I am curious to know how much of these you were able to complete in Maya? Thanks!
I pointed my students here, the sidebar on the right has some suggestions. You can also poll people there for ideas, usually answered by IT guys who have a bit of experience buying and testing various machines for real-world use. http://www.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/
I've only used 3DCoat and find it to do very well for my needs. It gets updated very often and I find the interface nice and clean. I mainly use it for retopo and for 3d painting. If you only need it for retopo you can get the student edition.
Faving this thread, this looks amazing. I always get students complaining about how they can't make things look good in Unity and how much easier it is in UDK. You are just more proof to the point that I try to make that Unity can do it just as well!
I have a friend of mine who is studying applied science and used to date an art student girl.. He said to us that what she was doing never seemed serious to him and that art people should only date other art people... Maybe he was right...
I know there is an exception. The student versions which you could buy were much cheaper here, don´t ask me why.I had to pay the same amount of money for a lifetime version whereas non-eu countries had to pay the same for a limited version.
Hey guys, wasn't able to enter this year but I have to say I am ecstatic about the people who have participated. Seeing the work that's been done is very inspirational for a student like me :] GREAT JAHB FELLAS! And thanks to those behind the scenes :D
I'm sure that if Wacom knocked down their prices a bit, people would buy more, and thus they would make more bank. Stupid Wacom. I'm stickin to my intuos until I'm not a poor student. P.S- What the hell was Wacom thinking with that new logo? Ugh.
i just got the name of the 3d flash engine the students used: http://www.papervision3d.org/ it is an open source project and released under MIT license. so lots of artists might profit from it. i have no experience with it, but those who are interested might check out papervision3d.
that animation mentor school looks pretty slick. really great animations in thier student showcase vid. pretty expensive for a year and a half program though. Think i might look into this. Take some life drawing and basic art classes locally and take this corse on the side.
