Just make a 1:1 square polygon and apply UV that conrespond to the texture needed in the Atlas. Duplicate the plane while moving it with snapping on so that it tiles with the other planes. Once you got the general layout of the terrain done, you can then merge all those planes into a single mesh (or add extra divisions)… -

Started working on Goro! Colours are merely a test, still working on the shading, getting all the shapes and anatomy right... as "right" as you can get a dude with four arms anyway! Final tricount is 671, comfortably within the "700-ish" limit I'd set for myself. Texture is 256x256 for now, but will be shrunk to 128x128… -

Well, the shirt is asymmetrical so the verts don't know where to snap. How do you create a symmetry when there is no symmetry to be found? The solution is to adjust the topology on the other half to accommodate for the different geometry, if you want to keep the asymmetry that is. If not, you can delete the problematic… -

maybe old school was a poor choice of words as it seemed to have rubbed people the wrong way. Was merely pointing out that I see a lot of people using curvature maps, occlusion bakes and a heavy use of photosource to create their color maps nowadays so it is nice to see artwork like this with a nice, well painted color map…
