got no clue why max is doing the UV thing, but yo zero out the location of a new object quickly you can right click on the spinners for the transform input at the bottom to put them at zero. also about the navigation, there is a add-on called "switcher" by digital raster than get you maya style alt+mouse nav and changes… -

Keyboard shortcuts is just one of the ways to improve your workflow, because it will be tiring to keep switching on the panel and click on affect pivot button everytime you wanna transform the pivot. This problem is because one half of the mesh is reverse normals. Go to Display-Polygon-Face normals... I can almost guarantee one of the sides of that model is reversed inward... that's the only time I've ever seen the border edge tool do that. Hello, When I move a model/vertex using the move tool it do it smooth, however when I use scale it do it on jumps, altough it can be fixed with transform type in dialog, there isnt such dialog on the Unwrap UVW window where precision is needed, tried snap settings but it still do it.
