This looks amazing. I really like aurelion sol's concept as a eastern dragon. One quick question, should he have some king of long whiskers? Correct me if I'm wrong here, I remember seeing a couple of mythical creatures with them.
Also, once you've polypainted the eye you can mask by intensity and sculpt the mask as displacement which enhances the realism of the reflection. Here's an eye that I made in ZB recently as part of this creature. You can see the displacement effect that I'm talking about.
Actually the first one is pretty bad. It's one of those movies that you remember being super old, but is actually not. It has some really cool creatures, but watching it now, yeah it's very cheesy - but I loved it as a kid, so I'll always have a spot for it.
This could be a bit gimmicky though. Will it really be quicker than using an existing base mesh? Might be better for doing fancy creature stuff i suppose I am always suspicious about the usefulness of this kind of thing until i actually give it a go

you know, i have tried but i could not find a katana making tutorial for milkshape either. but i did learn to use the tools in milkshape to make cars, creatures, and characters, so when it came to making a katana it just kind of came naturally.
but the thing is, there are goals in Spore: become the dominant species, upgrade your creature, earn better weapons/tools for your UFO, protect your colonies from marauding pirates and hostile aliens, there's even a bit of a story involving the center of the galaxy and a race of evil aliens.
Interesting. I've gone through 4 jobs and been interviewed for a couple more and I don't think any of them ran for more than twenty minutes. Actually the Creature Technology one was probably a bit longer because there was robot dinosaurs that needed to be looked at.
Just curious, since I'm not a Maya user, but the rigging/animation stuff in this release sounds great. Especially HumanIK which looks like the Maya version of Biped. But how do you rig creatures with it? Do they have a CAT-like thing similar to HumanIK?
The eyes don't really match the insectoid feel of the rest of the creature. You might want to try it with larger, faceted eyes. You might also play with giving a slight iridescent sheen to the shell; even dark beetles will often have a semi-iridescent shell.
