There is an option in .FBX to triangulate on export. That was the giveaway....... ;) .FBX to UE4 respects 3dsMax's modifiers but not Blender's, it seems.

you can import md3 to 3dsmax, there are scripts by chris cookson floating around, try googling for that.

I didnt know indie licences are available for 3dsmax and maya, thats really good to know and pretty affordable

Snapping to anything other than the grid or verts in 3DSMax == A ride on the lolcopter. Seriously. And even then, verts can be flaky...
