The NetImmerse (now Gamebryo) engine used in Freedom Force used 3ds max for level authoring, and it used Xrefs. -

Jesper Kyd's Soundtrack for Freedom Fighters. The game was so so. The Music made it. The same with Quake. Trent Reznor defined it.
