Mari is great. 3d painting is not needed IMO. There was a time where I thought i needed vector displacement mapping support in it, but i found that type of situation wasnt needed because you cant rig vdm anyways. Mari is leaps and bounds better than zbrush polypainting. I use it in conjunction with Photoshop.
[ QUOTE ] I hope Epic does some hands on video tutorials for the MOD community for Unreal Engine 3 games . I mean Valve did a few I hope Epic takes there Que . [/ QUOTE ] The good folks over at 3D Buzz are planning on doing some more VTMs, somewhat inline with what they did for 2k4: 3D Buzz Forum Post
Currently running: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 3800+ overclocked to 2.4ghz 4GM ram 8800 GTS Windows XP 64bit Dual 19" Acers and my teeny tiny 4"/5" Intuos 3 from years ago. So far so good. Recently got myself a 500g external to use for backup. GoodSync ftw.
This article went beyond your standard 2D bitmap look. Many great looking 2D games from our past don't really do anything different from each other. Basically take Metal Slug as your old school shout-out. I'm glad they didn't let VGA nostalgia blur their vision. (Loco Roco FTW)
pogonip: XSI comes with the principals of XSI DVD-rom. There's also a 5-dvd training kit softimage sells. it was once free with the purchase of xsi 4.2. Both of those aren't very helpful for beginners...more like a way to transition from other apps or learn more tricks later on. A good source for me was the 3Dbuzz VTMs,…
2 MGM: Again, I'm not sure about production time on this one, I had to switch between several task all the time. Let's say 2 weeks but it is very rough estimate. 2 ElectricEchoes. I've made high poly for only few parts of the ship, for lifeboat for example. The rest of normal map was painted in photoshop.
A 8192x8192 image is almost 200mb.... and thats just one image. Imagine if you would have a that big normal/spec/gloss/diffuse. Then imagine a game that would use that big maps on everything. There is no any vga that could handle this. 4k must be enough for your weapon, but 2k or even 1k can be too. I would go with 2k and…
After a hot minute, I found out that my noise problem was twofold: the first one was obvious (distortion and lack of resolution), the second one came from the incorrect use of noise (when applying the stamp). So I adjusted accordingly the vdm stamp and corrected my use of surface detailing. It's still not 100% optimized,…
Pending on how the studio is set up, you may hand off the sculpt to another artists for low poly/ texture creation. Speaking of Josh, he has a process video from a ZBrush event at Gnomon. It's pretty cool to see his process for creating characters.…
Hmm, do you have a built in VGA card in the mobo? If so you might want to disable that if possible. 2nd, have you already gone into your display properties->settings tab and checkbox'ed the "Extend my windows desktop to this monitor" ? Can't help you much after that cause I'm using a Radeon Card for my Dual monitors.
