Another method in 3ds Max is to use the Volume Select modifier. It can load a mesh as the selection radius. Enable soft selection, and add a Push modifier. edit: Maybe not. Tried a test, doesn't do what the OP is after.
joe gracey Actually I am using a combination of Soft and Hard edges to get clean and crisp normal map... For baking purpose i use xNormal with default settings, nothing fancy. for presentation I use marmoset.
Good start. Some of the larger bevels are looking a bit soft though. Stertman recently did a very similar door. It'd be a good idea to see his approach: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86451 -m
fo shizzle?? does anyone know what is he working on next? his games r pretty much the only ones i play no matter what (besides id soft... altho that might change soon :o )
I been waiting for a simple 3d model painter for decades! something easy to paint handpaint textures style without all the specular, softness and metallic map stuff. a light software not so heavy like Substance Painter.
does everything need to be that soft everything looks very round and smooth idk i am also quite new but it looks like its lacking hard edges it looks like every thing has been smoothed
You used Autodesk soft at school, get the free educational licenses for use at home. Then you will only need to buy Zbrush. If you get a freelance gig, subscribe to the Autodesk software for however long it takes to finish the job.
UK police are soft.. scared shitless of being sued. Ive seen first hand what police are like in some other countries.. and if whats going on here happened over there the riots and lootings woulda lasted 12 hours if that..
yeh post up the different versions :D I like the red body, the one you have at the moment is nice but looks strange. Play around with different versions :) with soft select its easy to mix up the proportions :)
Idle Animation - 99% finished. It's subtle but we're going for as realistic as we can make it. That goes right down to the soft breathing of the soldiers (which is only noticeable from the side perspective). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufgBRdOng98
