Cool tutorial. You might be interested in Bercon Maps, its a collection of noise maps for max, way better than the originals. If your using a max 2010 or higher there is a quicker way to get the basic shape modeled. Draw a spline representing the basic shape of the chunk. For example, in this instance, I want to select the red part of the edge loop and slide it closer to the next loop so that there is a consistent gap between them for when it gets turbosmoothed.
