This post based upon OP's numbers here http://polycount.com/discussion/171689/pbr-the-problem-with-greyscale-metalness#latest: I have several questions regarding this metalness usage plus a real-world example to ask questions about: (BTW this is not for game engines and targeted for 3DS Max renderers and such) 1. We are…
I missread the OP. :# I think he meant inflating low poly. It's what I meant. Doing it to Hipoly is indeed weird. Inflating low poly along vertex normals to bake world space normal map on the other hand is where low poly itself become the cage . That way it works in many renderers that are not supported by regular texture…
Amazing work overall. As for your request depends what you want to do with it. I would suggest story telling, and in that regard gothic goes hand in hand with dark/gloomy vibes. Maybe work on a night/ominous lighting? Try to tell a story, you can light some tall rooms of the cathedral in an sinister manner for example ;)…
Hey all! Is anyone planning to take part in Pwnisher’s new DRÆM SEQUENCE challenge? It kicks off Saturday 31st Jan at 5pm (2026). I’m probably being a bit delusional, but I think I’ll give it a go even though I have zero time. And I will try my best to get my students to take part. :) Here is the challenge page…
Hey everyone, I wasn't sure what it's called. The problem I'm referring to is what happens when you bake, for example, a smoothed cylinder onto a low-poly version of that cylinder. The baking info when put on the low poly mesh shows how the edges of the low poly object are breaking the smooth curve of the cylinder. I can't…
Visible geometry when this is for example some advertisment.. and what shoes does your favorite hero wear anyway ? (Of course it would look odd when for example a soldier wears high heels.. )
I agree with @killnpc that having an artist to deal with all of this could help. Art is a big selling point to games, and I'm afraid all the work you've put in developing the mechanics of the game might not shine as it could. However, if it's a passion project and you don't have more than your time to invest in this, then…
Hi folk, I wanted to ask you about time management of yours. How exactly do you arrange your time every day for studying and working with 3D? Maybe you are using scheduled daily routine, or maybe it more spontaneously? Can 3D artist arrange your day without fatigue, or it's impossible thing to do? For example, one half of…
Added convex / concave separation, and its working on both normal map and vertex normals. Example with beveled edges (vertex normals): Example with a normal map input: And an example with some noise texture break-up and convex only edges:
