May be in the wrong subforum here but I have a quick modeling question. For creating fabric that will be rigged and animated things like tabards strips of cloth etc would this be modeled using a single poly plane with divisions or as an object with additional geometry to give it some depth? Also would you model in the rips…
@R_Mutt2017 For this you may actually have an easier time in Blender if that's all you're after. I'm not much help with how, but I saw a video recently (no idea where, sorry) where a guy extruded edges for a similar effect. (his was kind of crazy in that it was a cube with internal "kittycorner" edges for a spectacular…
FrankPolygon thanks for advice. Now I have a new challenge, any ideas on how to make the same plates? I found screenshots of the process of how it was done, but I did not quite understand how he did it so perfectly so high quality and smooth. If i do a retpology separately for each sheet, this is an incredibly long process…
crasong, you start with way too many polys on that silhouette. You won't manage to make a clean shape in the other dimension. I don't remember how to perform meshsmooth in maya, but look for it. Keep the mesh simple (blocking) then subdivide it. This is the whole point of that thread, keep a manageable low poly that once…
The way I did it in Maya was to bevel all the hard edges except for the corners in question. I then smoothed all normals, selected the corner edges and gave them hard normals. Then I applied mesh smooth and checked "preserve hard edges" so basically it smoothed everything except for the corners. Deleted history and applied…
you could just do cylinders connected together and capped to fit them; cut them in half and float. if you want them connected go in and cut the geo of the mag and append/weld the geo add in some control edges/use max's version of crease to reduce the number of control edges, and call it done. It still wont be super clean…
Hello Folks, im just wondering how the heck would you model this part super fast? What I know it was created in Modo and screenshot is taken from maya. Im wondering if are there any suppa fast tricks you can use to provide shapes like that? For example Sub-d modelling - and making a turbo smooth, or procedural bridging…
Hey guys. I was wondering if a lot of the techniques being used in this thread are just as easily applied to Softimage? I figure the basics would be, but what about some of the more advanced modeling tips such as for speed modeling? Does XSI or even Maya for that matter lack some tools that 3ds max comes with, and if so is…
You're trying to make it bend round to much, just because you added an extra edge along the right to make the tri into quads isn't helping. instead of removing the edge on the left side why not make it thinner I have a question! i seem to be having a 3d blackout and can't remember which 3d app has a tool where you can cap…
Hello! I am still learning 3d Modeling. Since I model for 3d printing I have been using Booleans to make most of the details. I am trying to learn how to model them more 'properly' but I am having trouble maintaining the over all curves of the piece I am adding the details too. The first picture is the lowest LOD and the…
