Really all you should have to do for a fresh folder is to temporarily rename your "2016" folder under user/documents/maya/ and let Maya remake it from defaults. It can be useful for troubleshooting or isolating issues that you don't know where to start on; or even doing the same with the prefs or scripts folder inside.… -

I agree with doing more metalic look. Maybe not as harsh as show on the original image from video. Do play with the spec/gloss on specific areas, cause now it looks more like leather then metal (gloss/spec is to much overall the same) + some worn out edges (lighter colour of the base colour) can do magic when it comes to… -

So did a bit of atmosphere/pose/starting to design sketchin'. basic premise is that the beauty stole the beast's heart and went to be with gaston. Beast is magical so doesn't die but is left with a hole in his chest that never stops bleeding. Want the scene to have a almost simple statuesque feel to it so no crazy dynamics… -

Nice one Joe, although the way you've cut out the background seems a bit rushed - shoulda done a Magic Wand with Contiguous unchecked, Tolerance of 1, and Anti-alias unchecked, then used that as a mask for your background gradient.
