I've been looking into using a gradient map adjustment layer and some crazy grouped layer setup so you can paint with black and white (like where light hits or doesn't), and have the adjustment layer make it colourful. Krita can open your average PSD fine so you should be able to keep both software open and go back and forth quickly. But Krita doesn't have the Clipping Mask feature (it uses something else to do this, called alpha-inheriting), so if you happen to use clip-masked layers in the PSD they will be loaded as normal layers and… -

I suggest buying the better gfx card, as that's more inconvenient to upgrade later. If you buy 4gb of ram and want more, you can pick it up later and toss it in - no waste. Love to see some animal/human model examples to get a better idea. I'm thinking the main issue would be EM noise since the headphone jack is analog. So you would never get the precision versus a direct digital connection to the laser controllers.
