I don't know Maya, but what you describe would happen if the IK target was off in space beyond the rig's reach. Maybe there's some sort of discrepancy regarding the location of the IK handle versus the end of the chain. Unless this is a totally common issue, posting a screenshot would probably help the other Maya users…

The result you have here looks pretty much perfect pixel perfect when scaled to 256x256, but in my opinion alot of the pixels are largely wasted at 512x512 or 1024x1024 in its current state. Did you read the help on it? Never tried using this tool, but by reading the help my guess is you select and load the source characters character set node and then select and load the target characters character set node. Now you should be able to map different character set attributes in between those. Doing swizzles etc.
All depends on your engine/target platform. In a lot of cases (if there were many of these in the scene) the vents might not actually be modelled at all. So this is the sculpt minus a few accessories I made. I am a little uncertain as to how to correctly skin a few things to the model with regards to re-targeting to different skeletons in UE4 so I am leaving them out we get past a proto-typing 'checkpoint' we have in roughly two weeks.
