As simple as it is to noodle around in a sketchbook every now and then, I guess I don't see why you wouldn't work in 2D at least a little bit. I do think it's possible to be a solid 3D artist without having much drawing ability, but I also think if you have 2D ability, translating it into 3D is a simpler progression (let's…
Hey guys :D So I've been adding some more stuff in to the scene, polishing and optimizing performance for the game. Lets start with lighting today. I have decided to go with stronger blues to emphasize the mood, I've been tweaking a lot of the post proccess settings to get it to about here. I feel like it still needs…
cool stuff, could go for better lighting in the presentations though, looks kinda thrown together. The rock guy is cool, but honestly look way too close to the Warcraft 3/WoW rock giants to seem awesome and original. The proportions are almost identical, and the texturing seems very similar. It isnt a bad thing if you're…
UPDATE 1: Here is my 1st update from my trimsheet project. So far I have decided on a bit of a theme. I stumbled up on the work of Shahab Kashvargir https://www.artstation.com/shahabkeshvargir and used his work for reference. I settled on a pseudo dwarven cave theme and came up with this: Everything except the lower base…
@Muzza123 Thanks for your design! Yes, I can tell how you've incorporated a variation of the same colour scheme. @BRADDERS64 Thanks! It's noteworthy that you have also used texture (the rock cracks) and expression to convey the character type. @dustinbrown Thank you. This article was extremely useful and highlighted some…
Hi QB1! I love the colors and composition; everything looks great! However, I have a problem with the space between the foreground and the background. You have really nice contrasts and the main focus is on the magic stones, which is amazing. But I think the background with the trees seems flat, as if there is no distance…
Thank you all for your feedback! I have updated the polygon density on the outer ring as suggested. The fog is also gone. Textures are not yet transferred as I'm still dealing with some new UV/lightmap/bake errors that seemed to show up with the new geometry (why wouldn't they?). I went for a walk recently to collect some…
hey mate, this is looking pretty cool. but i would really recommend the addition of the bubble around the house, the blue inside it contrasts the rest of the scene and is visualy pleasing. the trees look a bit too dense with leaves, you need some negative space in there where you can see through the foliage. the rocks are…
Looking at the stones, there is no way this could ever be from photo to normal, those are very likely 3D sculpted and then baked down. Youll never get such normals from a bitmap to normal generator. This is kinda what you get from a bitmap to normal generator, used the same stone image as base. The tool can not possibly…
Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. For some context, this is going to be an alien Earth-like planet that was attempted to be colonized by humanity (but failed). It's for a little sci-fi game I'm working on in my free time, so I want to keep some details to myself. I agree that it needs a sky, but I'll be going in a…
