Kp, I think the reason why he tackled stuff that way is because, that's the only way for maya do perform (seamless) realtime symmetry :P I know it sounds like a joke but it's true - it only works with selection and transforms, not with geometry/topology edits. But yeah I agree. -
Re: n00b mistakes you've made.
When first learning to do normal maps, after freezing transformations on mirrored objects in Maya (causes the normals to flip), and then getting pissed off and blaming Maya and every other application I could find for breaking my maps.... Until I realized the normals were reversed. -

@musashidan - about the transform cycle is kinda easy and I use this as well. ( case toolmode.commandmode of ( #select: max move #move: max rotate #rotate: max scale #uscale: max move #nuscale: max move ) ) Just put it in a macroscript and bind to a single shortcut key and be happy. -

That's a pretty cool design there. If they ever start making a new Descent game, I could definitely see it getting some love there. It would be interesting to see if you have any animation sketches or just a rough animation of the bot of what you feel the transformation should look like. -

The first time I saw my quakelord skin run past me while being worn by one of my clanmates I was utterly captivated. When it runs around ingame, its like the work is transformed, life is breathed into it and you almost don't recognize your creation. -

If you build the door not at an angle and then move the pivot point where you want you can then rotate the door into place and if you do not freeze the transform it will retain its correct rotation so you can then animate in only one axis to open the door, for example rotate y. -
