Re: Mental Ray baking problems
I think you might just need to set an option in the lowpoly's Object Properties to stop it either being rendered by mental ray, or stop it from recieving/casting shadows. I seem to recall that's the fix anyway. I always just use standard Skylight for baking AO so I never run into that issue :) -

At the second meetup right now and the headcount is 50+. We've had people from Blizzard and Epic stop by, Ryan was showing his book off again and it's just generally a great time. Program consistently crashes for me every time I boot it up. Sometimes I can see the previewer for a half second before it crashes. My issue was I would overlay my normals together when baking different elements out of max and then by the end I would realize I had a ton of noise all over. I have since stopped that. Now I know why I needed to stop. Yeah I will take minor noise over banding any day! -

It's an annoying quirk for sure. The multi cut and quad draw loop mode behave the same, and sometimes try to loop "inverted" to where you're actually hovering over. Generally it wants to create a closed loop whenever there's a crossroad as seen on your ear. One workaround is to prematurely stop the loop by creating an edge… -

Has anyone had any problems with the latest nvidia driver. Whenever i start up substance now i get a 'display driver stopped responding and has recovered' error. Nvidia windows Kernal mode driver, version 344.48 stopped responding and has successfully recovered. However when i go back to substance all the nodes are blank? -

Lense quality is also an important factor in the overall IQ. Cheap zoom lenses usually perform badly at larger apertures, so definately try stopping down to f/8. Prime lenses are amazingly sharp, especially the cheapo nikkor 50mm f/1.8. Here's a snapshot taken with the lense stopped down to f/2.2, no pp done at all. 100%…
