Hey all, in order not to clutter this thread with random workflow questions (and get much aggro in the process!), I was wondering if you knew of threads, links, place, etc. focusing on switching to Blender for Max users. I'm not hoping to completely replicate my Max workflow in Blender and I'm aware of some of Blender's…
@SnowInChina: regarding template units for texel desnity: not hard to implement but not sure if i want to sacrifice real estate in the ui for that yet. I was thinking maybe a history dropdown with the last say 10 applied texel density values. But i am jot a fan of configuration UI's, hence why my baking interface is so…
i find it funny that when an actually valid criticism about blender comes around that a lot of people punk out with the excuses. fyi, blender was the first 3d-modelling program i ever used, and i love it. but to say that ngon support wouldnt be usefull is foolish. i have to wonder how much modelling you actually do inside…
Max Smooth Groups are more akin to weight-painting than just hard/soft edges - this is one of the reasons smoothing can be 'shared' across more than one 'group', something you can't do with Blenders implementation of edge marking (and why it's a complicated mess to implement in Blender using their current system). In…
I have been playing around with 2.5 a little more recently and its pretty nice so far :) As Arcanox said, the modelling tools are a little clunky but i expect some huge improvements once BMesh is done. Personally i think that is one area that should be worked on more, by multiple devs as the current project seems to be…
Blender's UV tools is all I've known for 5+ years using Blender. To be honest, the beauty of Blender's algorithm to lay out UV islands based on the seams I've set manually, is that those UV islands are 80% of the time perfect without needing that much adjusting. That's basically guaranteed out of th box good UVs for hard…
I've never really understood why Blender has been bashed in the past for its UI. I've always thought it was by far the best looking UI in a 3D package I've seen. Other programs, namely 3DS, are so convoluted with text and icons that really just look awful. I can't even bare to look at it. I suppose Blender looks a little…
@Udjani I definitely will try it out. Currently the chamfer mod in max 2020.2 is seemingly the best out of any DCC app right now. Although I don't mind moving to blender for its other features. @pior Fantastic thank you for the write-up. Handling transformation like that definitely feels more fluid for a 3D app. Anything…
Yeah - the issue with the Quick Favorites is that as far as I am aware there is no easy access to the commands being stored (or they seems to be buried somewhere deep), making it impossible to edit (and clean up). Whereas PME settings are directly accessible and editable from the Addon Preferences tab, really neat stuff.…
No problem! Other animation tips I have are; -motion paths are great, https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1693140/game/motionpath.gif -alt+scroll wheel for changing frames -set up a custom hotkey for shift+alt+scroll wheel to skip to next keyframe -set up a custom hotkey to delete keyframe of selected object only in the 3d…
