In my opinion assuming 'weapon' is a rifle?! tri count can basically range between 10 - 20k or higher for a low poly/proxy version, either portfolio still or in engine but mostly just boils down too an envisioned end goal. Also if memory serves, this Tim Bergholz tute I attempted last year came in at 19k though to be…
Making a bit of progress on this recently, still going to have to do a second pass on a lot of the assets, and a few more tileables and trim sheets to make. Hoping to complete most of t he hero assets soon then get onto the foliage after that!
Awesome start! Looks super clean. I would say look into during some trim textures, if you haven't already, as it will save you a lot of time! Do you have any reference you are working off of?
In a lot of the tutorials that suggest atlassing like that, they tend not to go many (or any) spans with tiling the texture and they will break up the tiling with trims like columns or ledges. You simply can't do it that way without getting mipping errors.
Hamstocks, welcome, looking good. I like #2 alot but i think #1 is pretty cool for him. Great halloween item. @elwing. Looks awesome. I think it needs some dark trims on the gold pieces.
*Portfolio updates* That is 3D. It is a maya screen shot actually. The trim on the silo is using a cgfx shader, and the rest is flat lit. The bear is using a custom self lit shader thats just faking a nice back light and fresnel.
Good stuff Paul, I knew that style and name looked familiar :) . Probably too late to refine the sculpt, but in the future I would use the trim dynamic brush to get some crisper edges on the cuts and centerline of the blade.
Thank you! We use zbrush for edge wear - as everybody else) Just simple trim dynamic, dam standard, clay tubes - and you can achieve great results. Just pay attention to photo reference and your edges will shine.
Some crossposting for the Art Jam thread. I really enjoyed doing this, breaking the symmetry, creasing, trimming... But I also felt my lacks in anatomy, the artists at Arkane Studio didn't invented a single muscle, unlike me... Anyway, here it is.
If an employer is looking at your CV there's a chance they will skim it quickly. You need to make sure it's as impactul as possible. One page for sure. Bullet point things. Make everything concise and to the point. Trim the extras from your CV as often as possible.
