Well, GTA cars use a tiling speckle shader with reflections and whatnot. They don't use a normal texture for the paint. They use textures on the interior, lights, and tires mostly. I think alot of next gen games are like this? thanks for the compliments :)
I too know some funy games: Ragdoll Matrix: Reloaded [full] - 18 mb [lite] - 3 mb (without music) and NEXT-GEN SHOOTER!!! X OPS [link] - 4 mb but anyway sumotori is most ridiculous
HL2 pistol is just ordinary real life USP Match If you do same detail as this guy did then you will have next gen HL2 pistol :P https://plus.google.com/photos/103251161303647936531/albums/5569509046623751505?banner=pwa
Looks pretty sweet. Love all the accessories. You've definitely put the effort in! What was the triangle count in the end? If you're aiming for next-gen (especially with cut scenes) then I think it wouldn't have hurt to have more polys in there.
+1 for the mat look Right now, it has too much of a last gen, plastic-y kind of texture going on. The surface in the real world reference actually looks like it's reflecting the world around it like real metal should.
if I can not do the tutorial for now, I can try to fix the scale of the objects in the tombraider scene and push the textures and modeling more to the point of it looking modern gen. I know I can do this, I have confidence.
I am also a new beginner. Your modells looks good :) How long have you been modelling? Please elaborate on what the next-gen game asset workflow is? :) Where are you getting your learning from?
I'm no rigger, chances are this guy wont ever end up being in a game - probably more just a turntable. But it'd be good to have the correct meshflow...or at least, mesh/meshflow appropriate for a next-gen character with a decent range of movement.
check here if you want to up your game. I just made one a couple weeks ago. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/how-to-create-a-video-game-dumpster-the-complete-current-gen-workflow/
Here is a good one by Ben Bolton. It's divided into 4 sections. http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/next-gen-weapon-creation-day-1-the-high-poly-model/ I learned a lot from it. Good luck :)
