3ds Max 2010 I am trying to model this armour with tank or Stealth-bomber like plates (e.g. to bounce bullets of). I modeled the single plates now but can't find a way to align them to each other. I tried to set the transform constraint to "normal" (so the single verticies only move along the Y axis) and to "rotate" the…
I did some stuff like that before when modeling a Paris metro entrance. I basically used long quad strips to outline the shapes, then added in loops down the centre and pulled them out, to give it some shape and stop them from being flat. After I got it to a point I liked, I used thicken (which'd be shell in 3DSMax) to…
Unless they're using some sort of voodoo that shouldn't be possible, the shapes quite literally cannot merge like that without disturbing the linear angle of the sides taper, it's not a matter of topology. If you have some better reference though I'd be glad to give it another spin. To answer your other question, the steps…
I have a question, Lets say i have created a cylinder with 8 edges. Now i add 4 more edges on every edge. How can i get this cylinder to be round again? I dont want to create a new cylinder with the same amount of edges and use it as a guide, because this wont work in all situations. Basicly what i want to know is what is…
Hey Vassago, Not sure this is what you need but here's a quick and dirty ( Hi Andy :P ) tutorial I did for the straps on the Darkwatch Gun I did. Link to the gun http://markdamico.carbonmade.com/projects/2388306 Tutorial: 1. Did a low poly version. 2. Ran connect to add some edge loops. 3. Extruded every other row of…
@perna if you dont or anyone else minds, are there tips on how to clean up geo such as for details like this? The problem I have is always when cutting out the shape, I have triangles and other ngons that ruin my shading. When I try to channel the loops to avoid the tris, the object gets pinching because the segments are…
Hey guys, just asking how I model this part on a Colt 1851: I know with cylinders and boolean I have to match the number of sides so that the natural geometry can be looped without causing distortions when SubD is applied. But in this case it isn't a cylinder but spherical. I tried using a standard sphere out of MAX but…
Subdivs are only a pain if you haven't developed the skills to use them. Fusion and other solid surface modelers aren't any faster than subdivs. And you need to pay for another license to use them - and switch to another piece of software. I find it strange that you don't use subdivs? I use them daily and I'm an…
Are you trying to win an art contest with your wires? If it works, it works. No one will care what a 'mess' it is if the finished product looks great. If I were to have to do it another way, I'd probably edge extrude in from the blue, then start moving verts to match the red, then cut in the rest of the geo for the red.…
So it seems that some pieces should just be done in PS or CB and not modelled out crazily? I mean I take it small items like screws or what not could probably be replicated in photoshop easily and be given a normal through there. I've almost always see people just sub-d model almost every piece in their assets, characters.…
