sounds like there is something wrong with your copy of MAX... I have the occasional viewport glitch, but never anything like that. Might be worth trying to reinstall. -N -

Not sure... but in blender when something like this happens its because you need to recalculate the bones roll (CTRL+N in edit mode). Maybe something similar?
