This might help. I've never tried it myself, but I've seen it around. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/vertex-color-tools-0 reads: "Adjust R -G -B -H -S -V -Contrast"
They use Spec maps, Normal maps, and all sorts of shaders in the newer R&C games. You might want to check out CreatureBox, which is run by a few Insomniac Artists: http://creaturebox.com/category/artwork/
If it was just R&G channels, then it could have been a map used to manipulate UV's. My guess is that it is similar to a direction map or even was a direction map. Knowing what surface it was on might help us a little more.
Thanks for all the applications and messages. The lines are closed now. I'll be in touch soon if your application is successful. I'm doing my best to reply to all other applications too. Regards and thanks for the Interest in PaperSeven. R.
wow dude, that sucks ! I really hope you'll recover asap. I'm also glad to hear that you didn't have to pay anything for it, those things can be VERY expensive. Keep us updated ! -R
I would export the handle seperatly from Zbrush. And retopo it in Topogun. Then I would do a explosion bake in Max or Maya whatever u r using to get a nice LP AO. Hope that helped abit.
try the "R" key, its a helpful tool that scales the object, the best part about this tool, is that it doesn't change your UVs at all. most all 3d packages have this tool, i use it all the time.
@SpiritHide i heard you! Your suggestion has been approved :p . Thanks a lot. Your "R" shape trick sounds interesting ,i'll use it while working on the cast shadow. Here is the new pack:
