ooops res is like 512. Is that too low? I am not really feeling this one right now, characters should sparkle, and glow, and this one doesn't have it, this is rather troublesome indeed.
As someone who mainly unwraps hard surface meshes, Max's (2012) built-in tools + PolyUnwrapper are completely sufficient for me. I usually try and stay in as few apps as possible, though ;-)
I will sacrifice fluid animation in combat for more responsive gameplay. It was the problem with Kingdoms of Amalur. Here is a great write up on it. http://aztez.com/blog/2012/05/24/the-amalur-problem/

btw, I've discovered that if u dont use the "apply mat. to selection ..." in shaderFX it doesn't crash anymore, just load the shader manually and everything works fine :-) (for max 2012 64bit)

Yeah this was a common Maya 2011 bug. I just ended up making a mel shelf button that selects all faces and re-assigns the material. Havent had this happen in 2012
Yah override is on for when im in UVW. I started a new scene and imported the geometry reset max and its working fine now. No clue.Max 2012 can't come soon enough :(
