if you want to paint on the highpoly then probably yes. i don't think it's capable of projecting everything you paint from a highpoly to the lowpoly with the final UVs in realtime. it might very well be possible to bake from a highpoly to a retopoed lowpoly and get it all in a layered psd as a result, but i dont bake… -

No, they're very different. A displacement map will actually subdivide your geometry at render time. A normal map is a more advanced form of bump mapping. As far as I can tell rendering an AO pass doesn't increase your render time by that much and integrates with the other lights a lot better if you render as you go. And if you really need to speed things up a couple of hundred bucks will buy you a decent render farm. If it's realtime the OP should unwrap things properly. -

Sure. But blur what? Blur realtime reflection? Blur a cubemap? Widen a specular highlight? A simple fake cubemap blur would be to use two cubemaps, one sharp and one blurred, and lerp between them with your 'roughness' mask.
