Hey guys just letting you know that I've been experimenting with it and this is what I have so far. [ame]www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-sPx7II1I4[/ame] Anyway I was looking for other examples that people have done and the best result by far is this post by Neox: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showpost.php?p=995132&postcount=344…
It's just based on a scale that Epic uses where 1 unreal unit = 2 cm, so since maximum grid size is 524288 x 524288 uu, that's 1048576 cm x 1048576 cm, or approx 10.5 x 10.5 km. Largest landscape you can create in UDK is 4033 * 4033 vertices and when you go to the top viewport you can see that it almost fills up the whole…
It is finally all done! Thank you so much to everyone for all the encouragement and advice. I can't wait to make something new soon :) I have learnt soo much during these 7 weeks, it's amazing. I feel much more confident in trying something on my own next time. I know there is a lot of little things I could have fixed and…
You know that 3ds max only uses one graphics core right? 3DS Max and 99.9% other PRO CG applications are not part of these multi GPU environments and do not support more than a single GPU. The worst thing you can do is to buy a dual gpu card and think you get 50% or more power.Actually a GTX570 is faster then that card!…
To get normal maps working in 3ds max without a realtime shader, you apply the map to a "Normal Bump" map, which goes in the "Bump" slot in the material editor, this will not show up in the viewport, you need to add lights and render an image to see the affect. Your second point there leads me to conclude that the problem…
99.9% of the time it's better to use 2 separate materials, one opaque and one transparent. Even with a completely white alpha, the material is not 100% opaque if you're using translucency.
so when i am saving out an animation sequence, be it .tga .png or anything, it defaults to saving as a .avi. is there any way i can have it not do that (i want the tga sequence so the alpha can be embedded in the targas? also is there some sort of filesize limit to the script? im trying to render a 1920 x 1065 video and…
Okay just tested it a bit on my end. All lights in the scene will affect all objects, BUT they're much more sensitive to distance/attenuation now. It's almost a binary switch, it's either in range or it isn't, there's no real "soft" transition into light range. I'm 99.9% certain that i can't do selective lighting like…
Summary of what I've learned from these threads: When someone is deciding to hire you 99.9999999% of the time your portfolio will be the only thing that matters. In the infinitesimally small chance that you're pitted against someone with an equal quality portfolio, same work experience, performed exactly the same on the…
