Oh when I tried to bake the heightmap in tiff format rather than tga in the high precision format (32F) it worked! Thank you very much for that advice!

it's a peterbilt 389 from what i can tell. here's the reference they gave me it doesn't have to be 100% the same, but i think i've stayed fairly true to the design.
the student versions from Autodesk and quixel are non commercial only. The Marmoset team as it seems wants you to actually being able to earn money with their product. the pricetag of $129 is for a student in my opinion ok.
