It's better to use fbx export for baking with XNormal, since that format can carry exported vertex normals (and in 2.71, tangents and bitangents) that XNormal can read. You shouldn't use objs to export to XNormal unless you're using ZBrush.
Well only thing I can sugest is to try exporting the model to an .OBJ then reset max and open it and reexport it as the .ASE. Hopefully youll solve this so you can get on with Captain nemos office, wich looks sweet by the way.
Update, fixed the silhouette on some pieces. Deleted the backside and removed some of the bevels and removed some edge loops from the noozle. Tricount: 1516 I can upload the obj file if anyone wants to have a look, just ask :)
http://www.robertfletcher.org/public_files/22_converted.zip Removed the TS modifiers and exported it to an OBJ. that'll open in anything. you'll need to redo your cages. Out of interest what does max say when you try to open that max file?
Yeah, that doesn't work for me. It is loading some mystery texture instead. I tried .Obj format also. In that case it doesn't load anything that I can tell. Thanks though... maybe I can figure it out now
Maybe you could try exporting your original as OBJ, and reimport (or even, check what it looks like in a regular 3D app.) Since you are remeshing it you don't need much resolution anyways so it should be fairly light to work with ...
yeah, xforms have been reset before exporting to OBJ using these settings, in xNormal, i use ray distance. iv tried with both exported normals, avarage, and hard (setting the corresponding in max8, as exported, 1 smoothing group, no smoothing group)
Hey, I got the files but I'm not seeing the same problem as you are. Can you verify that you see the same issue with the obj you sent me? Also, you can change the tangent space in the object properties in left hand menu.
Here is a question I have been trying to find an answer for all day. It sure would help if anybody can tell me how to separate a .obj scene in 3dsmax. I've been searching the web all day to find this out with no luck:(
i think that i've made a mistake, cause i imported the obj file from zbrush and the lowpoly from max. when i tried to align the highpoly on the lowpoly i found that the high poly was so huge.. can this make these kind of problems !
