In that case, get a SSD for sure, a better video card($150 is a good range). Better monitor. These are things that you're very likely to notice. The I7 2600 may be an option too, the extra cost is about equal to the extra performance(which is rare, usually you pay disproportionally high amounts for extra performance).… -

Wow. Basic Phong gray mat applied to everything yielded less than a minute render time for the same frame. Do mats really wreck a CPU that badly? Also, and I don't know if this is of any importance but I'm running a GTX 260. What about the technique known as texture baking? Would that help? I really need to learn about… -

Much better, the focus is back on the character. The angle of the camera is still looking down on it. Drop a biped in the scene, put the camera in its head to get roughly the right perspective.
