A lot of people dont know this quite yet, but Blender has actually become one of the stronger modeling packages out there. Give or take, I would put it way ahead of C4D and Lightwave, on par with Modo, and right under 3ds max + plugins. Again just for modeling. New website: http://www.blender.org/
Update on my environment. This week has been a little slow going but I've made SOME progress. I had to rework most of my lightmaps which took a little bit. I also finished the columns and I'm starting to get the look I want for the female sculpture behind the throne itself.
Pretty happy with the sanctuary hub areas, so I'm trying something new for the rest: Oh yes, and thanks to Beast's Directional Lightmaps, Unity 4 and a few optimisations of my own, I'm now pushing 200+ FPS rendering an entire map at 1080p on a Radeon 8750 (Upper-mid Range Card).
nice work - and cool idea with the diorama. i would reconsider the lighting of your final picture - its all black, gray and dull :( why not add some lightmaps instead of the vertex lighting which doenst work all too good - try some nice 3point lighting with nice contrasting colours.
I took a Lightwave class with a couple of guys who worked on photo-retouching for ad agencies. They let me know that no one should in any way believe what they see in advertising photography. NOT ANYTHING. EVER. I guess men are easier to photograph and alter, so we don't need a book? /jzero
I use OBJ for going between Max and Maya, and 3DS for going between Max and Lightwave. Ideally there'd be a single format that all programs imported/exported in the same way, but it seems even FBX doesn't manage that. Ideally I'd use an LWO exporter for Max, but one hasn't existed since Max4
I'm planning on getting it, since I make the "good student" pricing deal, which'll get me modo and the free upgrade for only 99 buckaroos. That, and I'm not sure if I want Lightwave 9 or not,I may just stick with 8 and use modo for modeling and LW if I need it for exporting to something.
Pretty amazing, and good learning in here! I've learned so much from seeing the few completed entries and working on my own. More enviro comps plz!!1 I'm curious to know what your Unreal setup was to get that nice soft shadow across the building without using a lightmap?
Overlapping or flipped uv's ? Would be a problem with the lightracer especially. Does the normalmap have the same errors? Are two models lying exactly on top of each other ? (points and faces are in the exact same position. ) Max doesn't like that and renders similar errorpatterns. Happens when the model you bake from and…
Pior, I really don't tend to get irritated with it. It could be that I come from a lightwave background. In the earlier versions you had to "dump your tool" to select something else, so a keystroke on completion of a movement is second nature to me and I don't even notice I've done it half the time.
