A couple of things spring to mind. Is object scale applied? If your object is stretched/scaled the mesh tools will reflect this. Are all the verts and edges joined? Any internal edges/faces? You could probably select faces instead of edges and split based on face selection. I'd enable back face selection, and cut in half. If its stretching too much, add 1-2 more cuts. In Max, open your uv editor map. On the map there is a pull down menu to "select inverted polygons" or something like that. Select them. Manipulate inverted polygons by flipping, or moving by each polygon. Fix them until no other polygons can be selected as inverted. Export your FBX or obj again and use that in Substance… -

Hi thank you for replying! Ok so I go into maya, select a joint and name it "attach_hitloc" (without quotes). Then selected the mesh and exported it an fbx. I name it Name_Ground then add the flying items to it and export another with Name_Flying finally I selected the bones and mesh and exported out some test animations.… -

Mari is quite slow depending on what you're doing; Like try and select a UV shell (smart selection mode + face selection mode), if the shell is even somewhat highpoly it can take ages. Are you using a cage in xNormal? In Maya you can easily create one by selecting the lowpoly and then going into the Render tab > Transfer Maps > Load the mesh at the top.
