Nice model . Best away import model to Daz ; - import DAE or Fbx format ( included texture ) - use Free Autodesk Fbx Converter for much better. ( Converted more file Obj, Fbx, Dae etc )
Uh, perhaps not the most elegant solution, but if you merge all subtools together and DO NOT change polygroups, it'll import as one OBJ but several separate meshes. You can then of course split it in ZBrush again by polygroups.
Only thing I could suggest is checking apply modifiers. Can you upload the low poly obj? Edit: From your top screenshot it doesn't look like you have auto smooth checked
I believe the dialog only shows up when dragging in /max files into the viewport. If you're dragging in .fbx, .obj, etc. then it just merges it and attaches it to the cursor for you place into the scene. I find it annoying as well.
Ok, once I stablished the different objects for my character I started blocking the overall shape, then adding more polys to match the silhouette. The next step was take my objs to Zbrush and add some refinements.
Here's a link to the zip file containing a Maya file and the OBJ -- whichever you need. http://www.impdragon.com/lymillerModel.zip Unless you mean for me to post images -- that I can do too. Let me know.
optimized your model, cutting around 263 triangles without changing the look of the mesh, and redid the UV's down to a single sheet. http://chrisholden.net/shotgunch.zip I included my maya file and exported OBJ in the zip.
Kat- cheers worked a treat- thought it might be simple saves me plenty of time the way i was doing it previosly was duplicating the obj then cutting and transfering the normals back from the orig based on proximity- pain in the arse.
I just tried under W7-64 with Maya 2009-64 and you can still drop 2 obj files at the same time in your scene. As kodde said check out your plugins list :)
There is no built-in instancing feature per se, however, if you save the object you want to instance as an isolated FBX/OBJ, and then import that, you can duplicate that object and then if you update the file on disk it should auto-reload for all copies.
